Value proposition canvas

What is a value proposition canvas template?
The value proposition canvas template helps you align what customers need with what your product delivers.
It lets you map customer problems, goals, and expectations alongside your product features and benefits, so you can clearly see how your offering creates value and where it may need improvement.
About Vani's value proposition canvas template
Vani's value proposition canvas template gives you a ready-made structure to align your product with your customer needs visually and collaboratively. With Vani's infinite canvas, drag-and-drop elements, and built-in video collaboration, your team can brainstorm, discuss, and refine ideas in one shared Space. Everything stays connected, from early research notes to final decisions.
How to use this template
- Get familiar with the canvas: The template is split into two parts: the Value Proposition on the left and the Customer Segment on the right.
- List what you offer: Start with the Value Proposition section by listing the products or services you offer and the customer needs they are meant to address.
- Understand your customers: Next, move to the Customer Segment section. Define your target customer, then outline the jobs they are trying to get done, the problems they face, and the outcomes they want.
- Connect pains and gains: Once that's clear, connect the two sides. In the Pain Relievers section, show how your product reduces or removes customer challenges. In the Gain Creators section, explain how it supports customer goals and creates positive results.
- Collaborate and review together with your team: Finally, share this space with your team to collaborate and collect feedback. Review the inputs together, refine the canvas to match your strategy, and duplicate the template to repeat the process for other customer segments.
When to use this value proposition canvas template
The value proposition canvas can be used when you need clarity or alignment on how your product creates value for customers. Here are a few areas where you can use this template:
- Early-stage product development and research: When you're exploring a new idea or market, the canvas helps you deeply understand customer segments, validate whether your product fits real needs, and think through solutions before building.
- Marketing and messaging strategy: A clear value proposition makes marketing easier. By understanding your customers better, you can craft messages that resonate, target the right audience, and build campaigns around real customer needs.
- Refining the existing products: If your product isn't performing as expected, this template helps uncover gaps where customer expectations aren't being met and where improvements are needed.
